New Ice Rink Wrapping up First Year

Feb 19, 2016 07:08AM ● Published by Kevin

Highland, N.C.'s new ice rink on Oak Street in the Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park opened on Jan. 4 for its first official year and is getting ready to wind down.

The rink was built through the generosity of Art and Angela Williams of Old Edwards Hospitality Group as a part of the second phase of the park. The Williams' donation was more than $300,000, which also covered the costs of ice skates, operating cost deficits and skating/rental fees for the next five years, according to WFSC10

The cost to skate is $5, regardless of if you have skates or not (you can use the town's skates), youth size 8 to adult size 14.. Coffee and hot chocolate is sold for $1. To check for openings, or for more information, call the Highlands Recreation Department at (828) 526-3556.
