Georgia Mountain Laurel's 2016 Food & Wine Guide

We are lucky to live in an area lush with crops, lush greens, and most importantly, grape vines. And we are even more fortunate be surrounded by local vineyards and wineries so that we can enjoy those grapes in style. 

We've compiled several local-area vineyards, wineries, and restaurants to consider visiting. Bon appetit! 

Vineyards & Wineries

Below are a few local-area wineries and vineyards that are both lovely as well as tasty. Stop by any one of these places for good wine, and even better company. 

Tiger Mountain Vineyards

Tasting Room open daily, 1 to 5 p.m. - Sat. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tiger Mountain Vineyards, a boutique North Georgia winery, cultivates all of its grapes and produces all of its handcrafted wines right here in the mountains of Rabun County. The winery, along with its historic Red Barn Cafe, is jointly owned by four native Georgians, John and Martha Ezzard and John and Marilyn McMullan. 

On the weekends, they also have their Red Barn Cafe open:

Friday and Saturday dinner, 5 to 9 p.m.
Saturday lunch/Sunday Brunch, 11:30 to 3 p.m.; Saturday, 3 to 5 p.m.

Bring a glass of wine from the Tasting Room and purchase a cheese board or charcuterie board
and enjoy the scenic views of vines and mountains!

Stonewall Creek Vineyards

We were lucky enough to get to know one of the owners, Carla Fackler, in our article "
Stonewall Creek Vineyards: Retired Couple Crafts the Perfect Blend." Not only are they a delight, but they make delicious wines. The husband-wife team creates an array of wines that are a must-try. You can visit them at any one of their local-area tasting rooms.

12 Spies Vineyards & Farms

12 Spies Vineyards is tucked between the North East Mountains to the west and the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest to the east. The sunsets are spectacular and views from the vineyard are stunning. There are many gardens filled with gourds, pumpkins, flowers and vegetables scattered around the 9 acre property. Bring your camera and enjoy a glass of wine from the covered deck or take a relaxing walk.

The four varieties of grapes grown in the 12 Spies vineyard are Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tannat and Traminette. All of these grapes grow well in the climate and altitude of Rabun Gap, Georgia. In addition, 12 Spies searches for grapes from the best vineyards for blending and to make their Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc.

Noble Wine Cellar

Noble's wines are produced from a single vineyard, Fiddler's Ridge, located in Georgia's first and only AVA. While growing grapes can be challenging on the East Coast, proper site selection, training methods and crop management have meant that Noble Wine Cellar continues to produce high quality fruit each year.  

They are pleased to have ten acres of four varieties: Traminette, Petit Manseng, Chambourcin, and Merlot. Currently available in our tasting room, and in select dining establishments throughout the Southeast, are our Traminette and Petit Manseng.

Winemaker Jabe Hilson's tasting room is in Rabun County. Featuring wines produced from the local vineyards and farms of the Northeast Georgia mountains.

Odom Springs Vineyards

Odom Springs Vineyards is a family owned estate winery located in the lush rolling hills of north Georgia. The vineyards forming Odom Springs Vineyards are located less than two hours north of Atlanta, on the western end of Union County near Blairsville, Georgia in an area known locally as the Young Cane community. Traveling east on Hwy 515 from Blue Ridge towards Blairsville, our vineyards are located approximately one mile inside Union County just past Sharp Top Mountain.

Crane Creek Vineyards

Crane Creek Vineyards sits high in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, just three miles north of the quaint college town of Young Harris in the shadow of Brasstown Bald, the state's highest peak. 

Crane Creek Vineyards is a family run business in the truest sense of the word. Members of their small staff are all family members, even if they are not part of my blood family. Each day and each season is filled with rewards as they work day to day with the land, the vines, and the incredible backdrop of our mountain home.

Laid back and fun, Three Sisters Vineyards is a favorite destination of Wine Lovers visiting the North Georgia Mountains and Dahlonega-Lumpkin County, The Heart of Georgia Wine Country. A variety of tastings are offered inside from a large cherry wood tasting bar featuring a distinctive collection of southern folk art and pottery.

Harvest Habersham

At Harvest Habersham they’re dedicated to great food that is inspired by fresh local ingredients. They work with dozens of local farms to procure ripe ingredients and prepare them in a way that enhances their fresh flavors. They call this style of cooking “Genuine Food”.

Beechwood Inn offers the best fine dining in the North Georgia Mountains every Saturday featuring Farm to Table Dinners paired to wines. View their Upcoming Saturday Menus. Grapes & Beans

Grapes and Beans is quaint little restaurant, wine and coffee shop nestled in the North Georgia mountain town of Clayton, the heart of Rabun County. We serve lunch, eat-in or carry-out, and use local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Their menu includes fresh soups, salads, several entrees for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike and wholesome homemade treats.
