Recently, USA Today ranked the top 10 Best Underground Attractions. Dahonega's Consolidated Gold Mine not only made the cut, but ranked 4th!

Gold was discovered in the Dahlonega area in 1828, long before the California Gold Rush. The Consolidated Gold Mine represents what was the largest gold mining operation east of the Mississippi. Mine tours take visitors 200 feet underground to experience what it must have been like to be a miner at the turn-of-the-century.

Other underground attractions that made the list included places like Cincinatti's Queen City Underground, which ranked 3rd, California's Old Sacramento Underground, which ranked 5th, and California's Forestiere Underground Gardens, which ranked 1st.

Way to go, Dahlonega!
